The Cream Cat's Snow Angel Needed No Wings, Only a Good Wiggle
Belly to the sky and paws in the air, a cream Exotic Shorthair has rolled onto his back in a fresh patch of snow, and the circular swirl around him looks just like the beginning of a snow angel. His upside-down face stares at us with round orange eyes, and the snow around him has been swept into soft arcs by his wiggling. Behind him, a wooden fence and the corner of a house stand quiet in the cold.
Rolling on the ground is a normal cat behavior. Cats roll to stretch, to scratch their backs, to spread their scent, and sometimes just because they feel happy and safe. An exposed belly is a sign of trust, though it is not always an invitation for a rub, and many cats prefer to be left alone in that position. Reading your cat's body language will tell you which is which.
Snow rolling is fun, but wet fur can chill a cat, especially one with a short, plush coat. A brief outing followed by a towel dry and a warm spot indoors is a good rule. Check the coat afterward for ice clumps, and wipe the paws, because snow can hold salt and other things you do not want your cat licking off.
As snow angels go, this one is pure cat. There are no wings, only a squashed face and four fuzzy paws, but the result is wonderfully cheerful, and the cream-colored angel looks very pleased with the finished work.
