Snowflakes Settled on the Black Cat's Nose and She Went Totally Still
Tiny snowflakes have landed on the nose of a fluffy black cat and decided to stay. She looks right at us with big yellow-green eyes, her dark fur still soft and untouched, and a few crystals sparkle among her whiskers. Behind her, a thin layer of snow covers the dead leaves, a blue flowerpot lies on its side, and a warm light glows in a window of the house.
A cat's nose is more than a cute feature. It is packed with scent receptors and helps cats explore the world, and the cool, damp feel of a snowflake can be an odd new sensation for them. Many cats will sniff and sneeze at snow before deciding what to think, and that is perfectly normal. A little sneezing is usually nothing to worry about, but ongoing sneezing or watery eyes after time in the cold is a good reason to check with your vet.
Long-haired black cats can show every speck of snow and fluff, so a quick brush after being outside keeps the coat tidy and comfortable. Black fur also warms quickly in sunshine, which makes a bright winter patch a lovely nap spot once the cat is back indoors.
For now she holds perfectly still, eyes round and curious, wearing her snowflakes like a tiny sparkling crown. Winter has barely started, and she already looks like she belongs in it.
