A Silver Kitten Sat in a Sea of Pumpkins and Picked Her Favorite
There is a whole field of orange here, and in the middle sits a silver tabby kitten with her head turned and her eyes narrowed in thought. Her striped coat stands out in contrast against the bright pumpkins, and her white paws are set neatly on the dirt. Behind her, a small house with a porch and dry corn stalks sits quietly in the background of the fall evening.
Silver tabbies like this one often have a pale background and strong, dark stripes, called the mackerel or classic pattern. American Shorthairs are reliable, good-natured cats with strong hunting instincts. Because of those instincts, a kitten in a pumpkin patch may stalk leaves, insects, and anything moving, so staying close to her is a good idea.
Patches and fields can also have hidden hazards, such as sharp tools, rusty wire, or pesticide. If your kitten likes to explore, a harness is a sensible choice. This particular little explorer seems to be enjoying the view, her chin tilted, her ears relaxed. Perhaps she is deciding which pumpkin is the biggest, or which one she would like to climb. Whichever she picks, the whole patch is hers for the afternoon. A small leaf blows across the dirt and she lets it go by, deciding the pumpkins deserve her full attention. It's a patient, peaceful kind of afternoon.
