The Jack-o'-Lantern Had Two Very Large Ears Sticking Out of the Top

AI imagedevon rexhalloweenjack-o'-lantern

Two huge ears and a pair of curious eyes pop up over the rim of a freshly carved pumpkin. A gray Devon Rex kitten has hopped inside the jack-o'-lantern and is now peering out through the opening at the top, with a toothy carved grin glowing on the pumpkin's front. A kitchen counter, a basket, and a bright window are just visible behind her.

A hollow pumpkin can be a very cozy hideout, but a few precautions apply. Never put a lit candle in a pumpkin when a kitten is nearby, and avoid leaving a carved pumpkin out for days, because it can start to rot and grow mold. Wash your hands and the tools after carving, and keep sharp tools away from young animals. A battery light gives that spooky glow without the risk.

Devon Rex cats are famously impish, with big ears, short wavy fur, and a talent for climbing into places they weren't invited. Their curly whiskers and large eyes give them an elfin expression, and they often love to perch on shoulders. This one looks like she thinks the pumpkin was carved just for her. She wriggles a bit, tests the walls, and settles in, quite sure that a house made of pumpkin is a very good house indeed. Every few seconds her ears swivel toward a sound in the kitchen, and then she sinks back down again, looking like a very small, very fluffy jack-o'-lantern flame.
