The Pie Was Baking and the Yellow Lab Had Already Found His Blanket
The pie has just come out of the oven, and a yellow Labrador Retriever has wrapped himself in an orange knitted blanket to be near it. His soft, droopy ears fall to either side, his face is turned to the side, and his dark nose is lifted as he takes in the aroma. A table with pumpkins and autumn leaves, a plaid throw, and a quiet kitchen make up the warm scene behind him.
Labrador Retrievers are friendly, outgoing dogs that love food, and many of them will do almost anything for a bite. Because Labs are prone to gaining weight, it's best to keep treats and table scraps to a minimum. Fall baking can be tough for a Lab, so keep pies and baked goods well back from the edge of the counter. Pie crust, butter, and spices like nutmeg are not good for dogs, and sweet fillings may contain ingredients that are harmful.
If you'd like to share the season with your Lab, plain cooked pumpkin without sugar or spices is a popular treat in small amounts, and many dogs enjoy it. Talk to your vet if you aren't sure how much is right. For now, this Lab seems content with the smell alone, bundled up and patient, with his eyes half-closed in a wonderfully peaceful way. It's hard not to smile at such a polite wait.
