A Border Collie Became a Pirate and Kept One Eye on the Yard

The eye patch covers one eye, the hat sits at a jaunty angle, and the red and white Border Collie wearing both looks out with his single visible eye, bright and sharp. A blue pirate vest with a red scarf is tucked around his chest, and his long, soft fur ruffles in the breeze. A wooden fence, a few pumpkins, and a garden bed full of dry stalks form a backyard setting.

Border Collies are exceptionally smart and energetic herding dogs, and their eyes are famously intense. They need plenty of exercise, such as running, fetch, and training games. They're also sensitive dogs, so gentle, positive training works best. A Border Collie that doesn't get enough to do may herd the family, the cat, or even the neighborhood children.

An eye patch on a dog is best kept as a brief photo prop, as covering an eye can be confusing or upsetting for some pets. A hat and vest are usually easier to handle. Check that nothing slips over his eyes or makes it hard to move. This pirate seems to be taking his job quite seriously, the one eye trained firmly on the horizon. He may be searching for treasure, or he may be watching for the family sheep. His tail sweeps once through the dry leaves, and the hat slides just a bit lower. The pirate never loses his poise.
