Santa Checked the Stocking and Found a Cat Already Inside

The stocking is large, red and cable-knit, and it is currently occupied. A white cat has tucked herself into the toe and settled so that only her face shows above the fluffy white cuff, ears perked and green eyes calm. Behind her is a sunny living room with an armchair, a mug on a low table and a pair of reading glasses resting on a pile of papers. She looks entirely at ease, like this was always the plan.

Cats love snug spaces, and there is a good reason for it. Tight, enclosed spots help them feel secure, which is why they squeeze into boxes, bags and baskets that look far too small. Providing a few cozy hiding places around the house, such as a covered bed or a cardboard box, is a simple way to help a cat feel safe. A stocking is cute for photos, but it is best used only while you are watching. Keep an eye on seams or loose threads that could catch claws, and talk to your vet about anything unusual in your cat's habits.

The cuff has the perfect fluffy collar, and her white fur blends right in with it. If there was a surprise inside the stocking, the cat seems to have decided she is the surprise. Santa would have to look twice to see whether the stocking had been filled yet.
