A French Bulldog Wore the Witch Hat Slightly Crooked and Didn't Care

The witch hat tilts to one side, balanced between one folded-back ear and one standing-up ear, and a black and white French Bulldog sits on a hay bale looking directly at us. His eyes are large and dark, and his wrinkled muzzle has a slightly grumpy, endearing look. Behind him, a porch with a pot of orange mums, gardening gloves, a green watering can, and pumpkins by the steps decorate the front of an old house. Let's call him Bruiser. He appears to be thinking about spells and snacks.

French Bulldogs are cheerful, affectionate companions, famous for their bat ears and comic faces. They are adaptable dogs and often do well in smaller homes, but their flat faces mean they overheat quickly, so keep outdoor time gentle, bring water, and avoid hot afternoons. Many snort and snore, which is common, but labored breathing deserves a call to your vet. Their skin folds need occasional cleaning and drying to avoid irritation.

A witch hat is easy to wear, but flat-faced dogs need a careful fit. Make sure the elastic band doesn't squeeze under the chin or press on the neck, since flat-faced dogs can be sensitive around the throat. The hat should sit lightly between the ears without covering his eyes. Keep dress-up short, offer treats, and take the hat off at once if he shakes his head or pants. A hay bale makes a nice photo seat, but check that straw hasn't gotten into his skin folds.

Bruiser holds the pose, hat slightly crooked, expression unbothered. A grumpy-faced little witch is the best kind.
