The Corgi Puppy Fell Asleep on Top of the Wrapping Paper Pile

Stretched out on a crumpled heap of red and brown wrapping paper, a red-and-white Corgi puppy sleeps with his chin on his paw. His round ears are soft, his pink nose is tucked down, and one little paw sticks out. Snowflake-patterned paper curls around him, and the busy living room beyond holds a Christmas tree, a laundry basket, and scattered blankets. The morning excitement has clearly worn him out. A bit of tape sticks to the paper beside his ear, and a stray ribbon curls near his paw.

Corgis are short-legged herding dogs with a big personality and a lot of energy. They are clever and love to be involved, though they can nip at heels because of their herding heritage, so gentle training helps. Puppies need lots of sleep, often many hours a day, and a quiet place to rest after play is a very good idea.

Because Corgis have long backs and short legs, it is wise to avoid too much jumping off furniture and to keep them at a healthy weight. After the gifts are open, clean up wrapping paper, ribbon, tape, and tiny parts that a puppy might chew or swallow. If he eats any of it, call your vet.

He looks perfectly happy on his crinkly bed, and the only thing moving in the room is the soft rise and fall of his tiny sleeping body. Even the most exciting Christmas morning ends with a nap, and he has earned every minute of it.
