Snowball Fell Asleep on the Wrapping Paper Pile After the Presents
The morning's presents are open, and the white Maltese has claimed the leftovers. Crumpled paper printed with pine branches and red berries forms a crinkly nest, and he's curled up in the middle with his eyes closed and chin resting on a bump of paper. Behind him, a knit blanket, a basket of throws, a plush bunny, and a water bottle show a very lived-in room after a happy morning. His small black nose and dark eyes are the only things breaking up all that cream and white fluff.
Maltese dogs are small, affectionate companions with long silky white coats. They love to be close to their people, and they often nap in the middle of the action. Their fine hair can tangle, so regular brushing helps, especially when pieces of paper or ribbon have been in the mix. Check his coat after the holiday cleanup.
Wrapping paper can look like a playground to a dog, but it's smart to keep an eye on what he's chewing. Small bits of paper are usually harmless, but ribbon, tape, and foil can cause trouble if swallowed, and a dog who eats a lot of anything unusual should be checked by a vet. Tossing the scraps into a bin promptly keeps everyone safe. A quiet corner to sleep after the excitement is something small dogs appreciate more than any toy.
We'll call him Snowball. He's earned this nap after a morning full of crinkles, and the mess can wait.
