Rudy the Bulldog Took His Reindeer Job Very Seriously
Two antlers crowned with sprigs of pine and tiny pinecones rise from the headband on the Bulldog's broad head, and he stares into the distance with a face of absolute gravity. Light snow dusts the porch boards and the little welcome mat behind him. His brindle and white coat looks plush and warm, and a garland and a wreath on the post behind him complete the scene. A woven mat and a bit of fallen pine straw sit near his paws, and a window glows warmly behind the post.
Bulldogs aren't built for long winter walks. Their short coats and flat faces mean they're less tolerant of cold, and they can have trouble breathing when overheated or stressed. A brief stroll, a comfortable coat, and a warm place indoors make for a happy winter. A snow-dusted porch is a fine place for a quick pose, as long as he's not left outside for long.
Holiday headbands and costumes can be fun, but dogs should wear them only briefly and with supervision. Make sure the antlers don't block his vision or slip around his eyes, and give him treats so he links the hat with good things. If he paws at it or pulls away, take it off. A happy dog is always better than a perfect photo. Plenty of fresh water and a soft bed near a heater will help him warm up afterward.
We'll call him Rudy. Everyone knows the reindeer have a very important job, and Rudy takes the role very seriously.
