A cream Scottish Fold kitten sleeps on crumpled brown and clear wrapping paper in a cluttered living room. 2 / 23

After the Unwrapping, One Small Guest Claimed the Best Gift of All

The presents are open, the paper is crumpled in rustling drifts, and one cream-colored kitten has claimed the biggest pile as her bed. Her folded ears are tipped forward, her paws are tucked beneath her chin, and her eyes are shut tight. Behind her, a sofa piled with blankets and a basket of greenery show that the morning's excitement has finally settled.

Many cats adore paper. It crinkles, it hides, and it makes a satisfying noise when they shift, so a pile of torn wrapping is basically a toy and a bed in one. The Scottish Fold breed is known for its folded ears and sweet, easygoing personality, and they often enjoy quiet companionship as much as play.

Cleanup is where a little care matters. Tape, ribbon, tinsel and bits of plastic wrap can be hazardous if a curious kitten chews or swallows them, so gather those scraps soon after the unwrapping is done. Plain paper is usually less of a worry, but it is still smart to supervise. If your cat ever swallows string or ribbon, call your vet right away rather than waiting.

This little one is not bothered by any of that. She is dreaming of whatever kittens dream of, maybe a fleet of paper balls she will definitely catch tomorrow. Whatever the dream is, it is clearly a good one, because her whiskers twitch now and then.
