Sparky Walked Into the Light Strand and Came Out Sparkling
A fluffy sable Pomeranian lies on a wood floor, wrapped loosely in strings of glowing lights. Tiny bulbs shine against his fur, and the wire loops around his legs and chest as if he has become part of the decorations. His eyes are wide and a little guilty, and his small ears point forward. In the background there is a plaid blanket on a couch, a pair of slippers, and a basket by the wall.
Holiday lights are a real safety matter for pets. Chewing on a cord can cause burns or shock, and swallowed bulbs or wire can be an emergency. Keep strings unplugged when you are away, hide the cords behind furniture or in covers, and give your dog a chew toy instead. If a dog tangles in a strand, calm him first, unplug the lights, and unwind them gently without pulling. A call to your vet is a good idea if he chewed anything.
Pomeranians are energetic and curious, with a big personality inside a small body. Their thick coat can trap wire and tangles easily, so careful grooming helps. We will call this glowing little fellow Sparky, for obvious reasons. He looks neither frightened nor upset, only slightly surprised at his own bright outfit. In the end, he is the most sparkly thing in the whole house, and he knows it.
