A Devon Rex Stood Watch Over the Gingerbread House

AI imagedevon rexgingerbread householiday table

A gingerbread house has finished its career as a table centerpiece, and now it has a guard. A cream Devon Rex sits at the edge of the wooden table, her enormous ears angled outward and her pale eyes fixed somewhere past the camera. The little house is neatly done, with white icing along the roof, icing snowflakes on the walls, and a candy trim on the peak. A tea towel is bunched on the table, a few sprigs of holly lie around the base, and a small tree glows in the background.

Devon Rexes are slim, playful cats with big ears, large eyes, and a soft wavy coat, and they are famously people-oriented. They like to be involved in whatever the family is doing, which often means being on the kitchen counter or table. If a cat is going to share your baking space, keep in mind that some holiday foods are risky for pets. Chocolate, raisins, and the sweetener xylitol are harmful, and icing and candy can upset a stomach. Keeping decorated treats out of reach is easier than coaxing a clever cat off a counter, and your vet can answer any food questions.

She does not look interested in the gingerbread so much as proud of it, as if she had been in charge of the project all along.
