A Grey Devon Rex Walked Off With the Candy Cane
With a peppermint stick clamped sideways in her mouth, a grey Devon Rex gazes into the lens like a tiny movie villain. Her ears are enormous, her whiskers are curled, and her yellow eyes seem completely unrepentant. She sits on a cream knit blanket, with a mug on a table behind her and a lit Christmas tree beyond the window glare. Small gift boxes crowd the table, and the light pours in so brightly that her thin wavy fur seems to glow.
Cats are not usually drawn to sweets, since they cannot taste sweetness the way people do, but the shape and smell of a candy cane can still catch their attention. If a cat grabs one, take it away carefully. The sugar is not good for them, the wrapper can cause choking, and some candies contain xylitol, an ingredient that is harmful to pets. If any gets swallowed, call your vet. Devon Rexes are playful and curious, so offering a fun toy in exchange often works well. Keep candy in closed containers and high places, especially in a house with lively cats.
She holds it with such style that it is hard to scold her. Mischief and cuteness are a strong combination in any season. The candy cane may not last, but the picture of her carrying it surely will.
