A Boston Terrier Puppy Got Hold of the Pumpkin Filling Spoon
With a pink tongue stretched up and a spoon of pumpkin filling in front of him, a black and white Boston Terrier puppy has found the best job in the kitchen. His big dark eyes look toward the camera and his ears stand straight like tiny satellite dishes. The spoon holds a swirl of bright orange filling, and a finished pie sits farther back on the counter. Pumpkins, folded towels, and a sunny window fill out the background, and the table is a pleasant mess of baking.
Boston Terriers are friendly, lively dogs with short coats and expressive faces, and puppies of the breed are often curious about everything that happens in the kitchen. Plain pumpkin is safe for most dogs in small amounts, but pie filling usually contains sugar, spices such as nutmeg, and sometimes sweeteners like xylitol, which is harmful to dogs. A taste of the spoon is not a good habit, since a small dog can have a stomach upset from a little rich food. If a puppy gets into something, call your vet. Plain cooked pumpkin is a better treat idea, but ask your vet first.
He looks entirely delighted, and it is hard not to share the joy. Every baker should have a taster this enthusiastic, even if the job is mostly for show. The pie on the counter is safe, for now, and the spoon is clean in no time.
