The Smallest Guest at Thanksgiving Had His Own Chair
Somebody pulled out a chair for the smallest guest, and a black and white Shih Tzu puppy took it without hesitation. He sits with his front paws on the seat edge, his fluffy ears flopping forward, and his dark eyes aimed past the camera at something interesting. The table next to him is covered in the leftovers of a craft hour: a crayon drawing of an orange pumpkin, bits of paper, a glass of water, a roll, and a few scattered pencils. Behind him a bright living room shows a plush bunny on a shelf and a green plant by the window.
Shih Tzus are friendly, people-loving little dogs, and they often do well in homes with children when everyone is gentle. A small puppy should always be handled carefully, since a fall from a chair or a rough hug can hurt him, so it is best to teach kids to sit down and let the puppy come to them. Craft supplies need attention too: crayons, glue, and small pieces of paper are not good for puppies to chew, and some art materials can be harmful. Keeping the craft table tidy, and offering a puppy-safe chew toy, helps everyone enjoy the afternoon. Your vet can give advice on introducing a puppy to young children.
He seems perfectly content with his seat, as though a place at the kids' table were the real honor. Every holiday gathering needs a smallest guest, and he fills the role beautifully.
