A Cavalier Puppy Curled Up by the Fireplace After the Feast
Warm, red-gold, and curled into a perfect circle, a ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy sleeps on a blanket near the fireplace. Her long ears drape over her paws, her eyes are closed, and her silky coat looks like polished copper in the glow of the afternoon. Behind her a brick fireplace holds a quiet fire, and the mantel is decorated with small pumpkins and leaves. A table beside her holds the leftovers of a meal, with plates, a glass, and a bowl of cranberries, and a plaid blanket lies nearby.
Cavaliers are gentle, affectionate toy spaniels known for loving a lap and a cozy spot, and they are often described as great companions for families. Puppies sleep a great deal, and a post-dinner nap near a fireplace is a classic. If there is a fire, use a sturdy screen and keep the puppy a safe distance away, since sparks and heat are risks. Cavaliers are prone to certain health conditions, including some heart issues, so regular vet visits are a good idea. Keep leftover food off low tables, because a sleeping puppy may wake up with a very interested nose.
She is dreaming, no doubt, of something sweet and gentle. After a big meal, there is no better way to give thanks than a nap by the fire. The quiet crackle of the fire is the only sound in the room.
