The French Bulldog Puppy Looked Very Serious in His Reindeer Antlers
Two little antlers sit on top of a cream-colored French Bulldog puppy's head, tied under his chin with a thin string, and he wears them with solemn dignity. His wrinkled forehead, pink nose, and bat-like ears give him the look of a tiny, slightly worried reindeer. He sits on a wooden porch dusted with snow, his big paws turned slightly inward.
Behind him, a green planter holds the dry stems of a winter plant, a black railing curves along the edge of the porch, and the yard is blanketed in white. The light is crisp and clear. We'll call him Dasher. He did not ask to be a reindeer, but he has accepted the job.
French Bulldogs are small, affectionate, and clownish, and they love being close to their people. Their short noses mean they can struggle with temperature extremes, so cold days call for short outings, and warm days call for shade and water. Costumes for pets are best when they are lightweight, comfortable, and removed after a few minutes, especially if the dog looks stressed. Watch for signs such as pinned ears, licking his lips, or trying to back away. Snow and ice can irritate paws, so wipe them after being outside. Frenchies also tend to snore and snort, and many are sensitive to heat and breathing issues, so your vet can give advice on keeping your puppy comfortable all year long.
Dasher stays still for the moment, antlers held high, a very serious reindeer on a very small porch.
