An Orange Tabby Cat Takes the Throne in His Fluffy Lion Mane
A golden mane frames a small orange face, and the king of the backyard is looking off to the side in profile. The fluffy lion costume circles his head like a halo, his green-gold eyes are alert, and his tabby stripes continue down his chest. The effect is a very small lion with a very serious expression.
Autumn leaves are scattered over the grass around him, a carved jack-o'-lantern grins from a pile of leaves near the fence, and bright sun spills across the yard. A tall wooden fence and a neighbor's house stand in the background. We'll call him Leo, naturally. He seems to be ruling his small kingdom with confidence.
Orange tabby cats are often described as especially friendly and laid-back, and the majority of them are male, thanks to the way the orange coat color is passed down. Whether it's true or not that orange cats share a personality, many owners say theirs are affectionate and food-loving, which means portion control matters. A lion mane is among the easiest cat costumes, but make sure the strap is loose enough to slip a finger underneath and that nothing covers his eyes or ears. Keep photo sessions short, offer a treat afterward, and take the mane off if he shakes his head or tries to scratch it off. Watch out for stray leaves with pesticide or mold, and keep him on a harness outside.
Leo gazes into the distance, mane perfectly puffed, and rules until dinner.
