The Linen Curtain Is in Shreds. The Siamese Is Wearing What's Left.
What was once a lovely linen curtain now hangs in tatters, its frayed edges dangling in long, ragged strips. The bottom half has been pulled down and wrapped around a seal point Siamese like a cozy shawl. Only the cat's dark-masked face, pale chest, and two little brown paws poke out from the folds. Those wide blue eyes are gazing straight up, round and pleading, as if to say the curtain attacked first and this was purely self-defense.
Siamese cats are slender, vocal, and full of personality. They are known for being smart, social, and quick to invent their own fun, and climbing curtains is a time-honored hobby for many young or energetic cats. Fabric that hangs to the floor practically invites it. Climbing curtains can damage them, and in some cases a cat can get tangled or pull down a rod. Cords from blinds are a bigger concern, since cats can get caught in loops, so tying cords up high or choosing cordless window coverings is a good safety step. Giving a Siamese plenty of vertical space, such as a cat tree by the window, along with daily play, usually reduces the urge to scale the drapes.
At least the new look is very rustic and very on-trend. The cat certainly seems comfortable in her improvised robe. The curtains may need replacing, but the photo of this little bandit wrapped in linen will be treasured far longer than the drapes ever were.
