Breakfast Is Served, and Somebody Skipped the Chair Entirely
Breakfast is served, and somebody has pulled up a chair, or rather skipped the chair entirely. A black mixed-breed dog with a white chest and soulful brown eyes is sitting squarely on the kitchen table, front paws planted among the crumbs. Around him lies the morning spread: fried eggs and avocado toast on a plate, a stick of butter, a bowl of strawberries, a glass of water, and a fork on a blue napkin. His ears are pulled back and his gaze slides sideways with a distinctly sheepish look. Behind, the sunny kitchen holds bananas, a dish rack, and a potted herb.
A dog on the breakfast table is funny, but some of these foods are worth a second look. Rich, fatty foods like butter and bacon can trigger stomach upset and, in some dogs, a painful condition called pancreatitis. Avocado pits and skins can cause choking or blockages, and buttery, salty leftovers are best kept off the menu. Plain cooked egg or a strawberry is generally fine as a small treat. To discourage table surfing, keep chairs pushed in, never feed from the table, and reward your dog for staying calmly on a nearby mat during meals.
This rescue pup seems to know he has crossed a line, quite literally onto the tabletop. Still, he has not moved an inch, perhaps hoping that if he stays very still, everyone will assume he was invited.
