The Laundry Was Clean Right Up Until the Boxer Found His New Bed
The laundry was folded, or at least it was clean, right up until a fawn Boxer decided the basket looked like the perfect new bed. Now he sits squarely inside it, front legs draped over the edge like a kid in a ball pit, while shirts, towels, and sheets spill out on every side and drape across the floor. His wrinkled forehead tilts with concern, and his dark brown eyes look up with that classic expression of a dog who knows he should probably not be in there. A detergent bottle on the counter and warm sunlight from the doorway complete this laundry room mystery.
Dogs love fresh laundry and dirty laundry alike, partly because clothes carry their family's scent, which can feel comforting. A pile of soft fabric is also simply a cozy place to flop. Laundry rooms, however, hold some real hazards. Detergent pods, bleach, fabric softener sheets, and stain removers can be harmful if chewed or swallowed, so they belong on high shelves or in latched cabinets. Small items like socks and underwear are a common cause of intestinal blockages in dogs, especially in enthusiastic chewers. Keeping baskets off the floor or behind a closed door, and offering your dog a washable blanket of its own, can help.
This Boxer, though, seems to think the clothes are already doing their best work. Who needs folded laundry when you can have the softest seat in the house?
