Crumbs Everywhere on the Counter, and Only One Suspect Sitting There
Crumbs are everywhere, and only one suspect is sitting on the counter. A sleek black cat perches on a pale kitchen countertop next to a round, crusty loaf of bread with a large chunk missing from its center, soft crumbs scattered around it. The cat's glossy coat shines in the light from the window, and its amber eyes stare straight back with a guilty, slightly defiant look. A crumpled dish towel, a spoon, and a bowl of garlic cloves sit nearby, while a glass pitcher, a cutting board, and a small succulent line the back of the counter.
Black cats are not a single breed but a coat color found across many breeds, and they are every bit as affectionate and playful as cats of any other color. As for the bread, a small amount of plain baked bread is not toxic to cats, but it offers little nutrition and is not a good regular snack. The bigger concern is raw yeast dough, which can expand and cause serious problems if eaten, and breads with added garlic, onion, or raisins. Keeping bread boxed or in a drawer helps, and so does putting garlic away, since it is harmful to cats.
This counter crime looks like a quick, decisive bite rather than a full meal. The loaf is ruined for sandwiches, but the cat seems confident that nobody will be able to prove a thing.
