Who Took the First Bite of That Fresh Loaf of Bread?

A crusty loaf of bread sits on the counter with a large hollow torn out of one side, crumbs scattered all around. Next to it sits a slim gray Devon Rex, large ears flicked back and wide eyes glancing sideways. Her short, wavy coat looks like soft velvet in the warm kitchen light. Plates, a spoon, a water bottle and bananas fill the background, a busy dinner scene that was left unattended just a bit too long.

Devon Rex cats are known for their big ears, pixie faces and curly, fine coat. They are often described as playful, people-loving and fond of perching on shoulders or counters, which is where they often look for a better view. A tall cat tree or wall shelf gives that sort of climber a good place of her own. Bread is not toxic in small amounts, but raw dough can be dangerous because it expands in the stomach, so keep it covered and out of reach, and call your vet if a cat has eaten some.

Because they love warmth, Devon Rex cats are also often found near sunny windows or laps. Counters are a challenge for many cats, and a consistent routine of rewarding a spot on the floor can help over time.

For now, our gourmet is acting as though the bread was already like that. She did seem to have excellent taste in crust, though.
