The Hallway Looked Like a Snowstorm and the Maine Coon Knew Why
A white trail of shredded tissue leads along the hallway floor, curling around door frames and piling up near the baseboards. At the center of it sits a brown tabby Maine Coon, tufted ears alert, amber eyes looking up as if waiting for applause. An empty paper roll rests beside him, and a single slipper lies near a far door. It has taken real commitment to produce this much confetti.
Maine Coons are one of the largest domestic cat breeds, with shaggy coats, bushy tails and a friendly, easygoing nature. They are often called gentle giants and are known for being playful well into adulthood. A cat with that kind of energy needs outlets, and a rolling toilet paper roll is the ultimate toy, since it spins and unravels with a satisfying whoosh. Toilet paper itself is not toxic, but eating large pieces could cause digestive trouble, so ask your vet if you are worried.
To avoid the mess, you can keep the bathroom door shut or install a roll holder with a cover. Many cats also enjoy a cardboard tube or a crumpled paper ball that is legitimately theirs.
This big fellow looks as proud as a champion after a hard-fought event. The hallway may take a while to clean, but he is already planning the next round. With a cat this size, even a small project becomes an event for the whole house.
