The Maltese Found a New Chew Toy on the Front Porch
A tiny white Maltese grins on the porch boards, his dark eyes shining and his fluffy ears perked up. Next to him lies a navy baseball cap with its brim chewed into a frayed hole and bits of fabric scattered around. Beyond the porch, a garden basket, a watering can and a pair of slippers wait in the late sun. It seems the cap was left a little too close to the steps.
Maltese dogs are small, affectionate companions with long silky white coats and lively personalities. They are known for being friendly and quite devoted to their families, and despite their dainty looks, many are playful and bold. Puppies and young dogs chew a lot as they explore and when teething, and hats, gloves and shoes are favorite targets because they smell like their owners. Keeping belongings in a basket indoors and supplying a few safe chew toys can make a big difference.
Fabric and thread are not meant to be swallowed, so check the mouth and the mess, and call your vet if you think he ate some. Regular grooming also keeps a Maltese's coat comfortable, particularly around the face.
He does look quite happy with himself, with an honest smile that could convince anybody. The hat may be done for, but his confidence has never been higher.
