The Bathroom Door Was Left Open and the Shiba Inu Noticed
White ribbons of toilet paper hang from the towel bar and curtain rod, drape over the sink and trail across the floor like party streamers. A black and tan Shiba Inu stands in the middle of it, his ears pinned slightly back and his head turned just enough to avoid the camera. Bottles on the shelf and a laundry basket remain untouched. It was a very organized kind of chaos.
Shiba Inus are small, agile Japanese dogs known for independence, intelligence and a cat-like cleanliness. They are strong-willed and can be stubborn, so training works best with patience and treats. They are also curious and clever, and a bored Shiba can find quite creative ways to entertain himself. A roll of tissue spins out so nicely that many dogs cannot resist it. Paper is not poisonous, but swallowing a lot of it can cause stomach trouble, so talk to your vet if you are unsure.
Keeping the bathroom door closed is the simplest solution, and a basket for spare rolls helps. A Shiba also appreciates regular walks and activities that give him a mental challenge.
He walks away from the scene with great dignity, as if he is just passing through. The party decorations were all his idea, and he regrets nothing. Shibas are known for keeping their feelings to themselves, so a flick of the tail is about all the apology you will get.
