A Shiba Inu Sits Calmly Beside a River of Paper Towels
A paper towel roll lies on its side, and its contents run across the kitchen floor in a messy white river of crumpled sheets and torn pieces. A black and tan Shiba Inu sits at one end, perfectly upright, ears alert, eyes soft with a guilty glow. The golden morning light makes the pile glow, and a pair of shoes rests near the doorway.
Shiba Inus are small, spirited dogs from Japan, known for being independent, clean, and a bit catlike in attitude. They are intelligent but strong-willed, so training works best with patience, short sessions, and plenty of reward. Many Shibas have a fox-like sense of mischief and love to unravel rolls and tear up paper for fun. A paper towel roll is easy to hide on a high shelf, and a dog toy that unrolls or tears safely can give the same thrill. Paper in small amounts usually passes, but if you think your dog ate a lot, call your vet.
The Shiba would like it known that the floor was messy already. By now the fox-faced pup has taken an upright, serious pose, and a small, hopeful tail curls up behind as a sign that he is, in truth, very sorry and a little proud. Luckily the paper towels are a cheap loss, and the Shiba's pride will be fine as soon as someone offers a treat and a clean floor.
