A Scruffy Mutt Looks Like a Very Sad Baker Covered in Flour
White flour dusts the whiskers, the nose, and the eyebrows of a scruffy gray mixed-breed dog who sits near a kitchen counter looking upward with a worried face. Behind, the counter is a battlefield of spilled flour, cutting boards, bottles, and a tipped bag. The dog's long, wiry gray fur and soft brown eyes give it the look of a very sad baker covered in dust.
Rescue mixed-breed dogs come in endless shapes, sizes, and personalities, and many of them are clever, adaptable, and very grateful companions. Scruffy, wiry coats often need regular brushing to prevent tangles. Flour itself is not toxic for dogs, but a big mess can make a dog sneeze and cough, and other baking ingredients like chocolate, raisins, and xylitol can be dangerous, so keep the baking supplies out of reach and shut the kitchen door during cooking. If your dog eats something unusual or seems unwell, call your vet. A treat toy filled with dog-safe snacks can keep a curious nose busy while you bake.
The baking will have to start again. But the scruffy dog, powdered like a doughnut and gazing up with those eyes, seems to feel it was all a delicious accident, and surely someone will forgive such a floury, hopeful face. A quick brushing and a warm towel will fix the fur, and the next batch of cookies will happen behind a closed door.
