The Clean Laundry Is on the Floor, and a Silver Tabby Claims the Basket
A wicker basket of clean laundry has become a throne for a round silver tabby, who sits squarely in the middle with a slightly worried expression. Towels, shirts, and socks tumble over the sides and across the wooden floor, and a lamp glows in the corner of the dim room. A potted succulent, a pair of slippers, and a shelf of folded towels watch from the background. She looks like a queen who has not decided whether to apologize.
British Shorthairs are sturdy, round-faced cats with dense coats and a calm temperament. They enjoy comfortable resting places, and fresh laundry offers warmth, soft textures, and the scent of their family. Cats are also drawn to baskets and boxes because enclosed spaces make them feel secure. It is a small comfort that clean laundry is easy to wash again, but cat hair does spread, so a lint roller is helpful. Make sure she does not chew on or swallow threads or buttons, and avoid leaving clothes with drawstrings or strong chemical smells in reach. Give her a basket of her own, lined with a soft blanket, in a quiet spot nearby. If she chews on fabric or seems unwell, talk to your vet.
She sits so calmly in the middle of the pile that the mess feels like a minor detail. Somebody will fold it all again, and she will probably be back.
