A White Cat Climbed Up on the Stove and Stood Beside the Pan

AI imagewhite catstovekitchen

A white cat stands on the black grates of a gas stove, one paw lifted slightly as she glances off to the side. Her ears are tilted back, and her pale eyes show a sheepish, uncertain look. Beside her, a stainless pan with a bit of residue sits on a burner. Behind her, white tiles, a wooden cutting board, and a folded cloth make the kitchen look warm and lived in.

Stoves are one of the most important hazards for curious cats, because they love warm places and high perches. A hot burner can cause serious burns in a second, and a cat can accidentally turn on a knob by stepping on it. It is wise to cover or remove the knobs, never leave a hot pan unattended, and give the cat a safe, warm spot of her own, such as a heated bed. If your cat does get burned, contact your vet immediately.

We will call her Opal. She looks as though she simply wished to inspect the pan, and she did not mean to cause any trouble. Her expression is polite, her paws are neat, and her fur is spotless despite the grates. Hopefully the stove was off, and she will be watching from a safe window seat next time. A warm sunny windowsill is a much better place to watch the cooking from.
