A Bulldog Stood Right in the Spilled Milk and Smiled About It
Milk spreads across the floorboards in a wide white puddle, and a fawn and white Bulldog stands right in the middle of it, wrinkled face aimed straight ahead. His small ears fold back, his dark eyes shine, and his mouth curls into a tiny, guilty grin. Shoes, a laundry basket, and a rug sit in the hallway behind him, and splashes of milk speckle his paws. It looks as if he arrived just as the glass tipped over, or perhaps a little before.
Bulldogs are known for being calm, affectionate, and sometimes a little stubborn. They have short noses, which can make breathing harder in heat or when exercising too much, so short walks and cool rooms are best. Many dogs enjoy dairy, but milk can upset some dogs' stomachs because many adult dogs have trouble digesting lactose. A small spill is rarely a problem, but a big drink can cause gas or loose stools, so talk to your vet if your dog seems unwell. Wiping up spills quickly keeps the floor from getting sticky and keeps him from lapping it up again.
He has no plans to move, and why would he? The floor is cool, and the puddle is a treat. His smile suggests that he considers the spill a gift from above. The mop will have a hard time with that cheerful face watching.
