A Gray Devon Rex Sits in the Sink and Pretends She Is Elsewhere

AI imagedevon rexkitchen sinkdirty dishes

A gray Devon Rex has chosen the sink as her lookout post. She sits among the dirty plates, with a spoon, a fork and a glass of water around her paws, and her big ears point toward the window. The wavy gray coat catches the sunlight, and her gaze is fixed on something outside, as though the dishes are none of her business.

Devon Rexes are known for their curly, short coats, large ears and playful, people-oriented personalities. They are sometimes compared to monkeys or pixies for their love of climbing and perching, and they like to be where the action is. A sink full of dishes is a high, warm, interesting place with a view of the whole kitchen.

Plates with leftover food can be tempting, but kitchen scraps are not good for cats, and some foods are toxic to them, such as onions, garlic and anything sweetened with xylitol. Dish soap residue is also best kept away from a cat's tongue. Rinse the sink after she visits, and keep sharp knives and glassware out of her reach. If you think she has eaten something unsafe, call your vet.

The Devon Rex is sitting still, as if the dishes are part of the furniture. She is too busy watching a bird or a leaf to answer questions. She will move eventually, though not before someone has had to wash around her.
