A White Cat Sits Among the Breakfast Dishes and Looks the Other Way
There is breakfast everywhere, and in the middle of it all sits a long-haired white cat, gazing sideways with great dignity. A plate of scrambled eggs lies near her front paws, and a slice of toast topped with avocado, a bowl of berries, a dish of butter, and a glass of water are spread across the table. A dish rack, a plant, and a bunch of bananas sit in the background, and the pale curtains glow in the morning light. She seems to be studying something far off, as if the meal were someone else's problem.
Cats are natural explorers, and a kitchen table covered with food smells wonderful to a curious nose. Some foods on the table are safe in tiny amounts, but others are not, including butter in large amounts, onions, and certain fruits, so it is best to keep meals out of reach and to teach cats that tables are not for eating. A cat tree near a window gives her a better place to climb, and regular meals and play help reduce begging. Talk to your vet about a healthy diet and treats suited to your cat.
The sideways look is a classic cat technique: if she does not look at you, then you cannot see her. Her tail may be hidden, but her paws are right next to the eggs. It is a calm, fluffy scene that proves that cats can be elegant even in the middle of a buffet.
