A Silver Tabby Sits Happily on the Books She Knocked Off the Shelf
Paperbacks are piled around the silver tabby American Shorthair like a landslide, and she is sitting on top of them with an expression of great satisfaction. Her stripes shine in the golden light, her yellow eyes are bright, and a tiny smile plays on her face. The bookshelf behind her is half empty, and the remaining books lean at odd angles, while open volumes lie around her paws. A small plush bunny sits against the wall, and a plant stands in the corner. It looks like a library after an earthquake, with a very pleased librarian.
Cats love high places, and a bookshelf can look like a ladder to the sky. American Shorthairs are known as sturdy, athletic, and good-natured cats, and they enjoy climbing, hunting, and play. Bookshelves can topple if climbed, so it is a good idea to anchor tall furniture to the wall and to give your cat a sturdy cat tree instead. A tall perch near a window offers safe heights and a view. If a shelf does fall on a pet, take your cat to the vet to be checked, even if she seems fine.
She looks like she has solved a very difficult problem. The books are everywhere, but she does not seem worried. A comfortable seat is a comfortable seat, and a stack of paperbacks may be the best one in the house. The shelf will be reorganized soon, though she may have some opinions on the new order.
