A Fresh Pie Cooled on the Table. The Black Cat Left Her Mark.

AI imageblack catcaught in the actkitchen table

A fluffy black cat sits right at the edge of a wooden table, her ears folded slightly back, and a perfect dollop of whipped cream rests on the tip of her nose. Behind her cheek, a golden pie crust glows beside a few apple slices, the filling a little disturbed. Keys, a gray mug and a rumpled towel sit across the cluttered table, and warm light pours in from the side. Her yellow-green eyes look directly at you. We'll call her Pudding, and she is trying to look serious.

Dessert is a danger zone for pets. Whipped cream and other rich dairy foods can upset a cat's stomach, since many adult cats have trouble digesting milk products. Pies may also include raisins, nutmeg, chocolate or sweeteners, some of which are harmful to pets. The safest plan is to keep sweets on a high counter or in a cabinet, and give your cat her own treat instead. Black cats, incidentally, are no different from any other cat in temperament, although they do tend to show every speck of fluff and dust in photos. If your cat eats something unusual, call your vet.

Pudding doesn't know about the whipped cream on her nose. She is holding still with great dignity, as if she's been sitting there this whole time just admiring the pie. Everyone who walks in will see the evidence immediately, and nobody will be able to stay serious.
