Somebody Ate the Cake Frosting, and a Red Maine Coon Has the Proof

Two big paws, two big blobs of white frosting, and one very fluffy red Maine Coon pretending nothing happened. Ginger lies on the kitchen floor with her front legs stretched out in front of her, and the creamy evidence sits on each paw. Her thick amber coat is brushed back from her face in a lion-like ruff, her tufted ears stand tall, and she gazes toward the far side of the room. Colorful toys lie scattered at the edge of the floor, and the sunlight makes her fur glow orange.

Maine Coons are one of the largest domestic cat breeds, with long, shaggy coats, tufted ears and bushy tails. They are known as gentle, sociable giants, often described as dog-like because they follow their people around and like to play. Their size means they can reach counters easily, and their big paws are good at scooping up whatever is interesting. Cake frosting is rich and sugary and not good for cats, and some frostings may contain ingredients that are harmful, such as chocolate. Cats usually aren't tempted by sweetness itself but by fats and the smell. Keep desserts covered, put them well out of reach and clean up crumbs. If your cat licks off a lot of frosting, or you are worried, a call to your vet is a good idea.

Ginger now has a lot of paw cleaning ahead of her. She will take on the task with serious determination.
