A Jack Russell Terrier Carried Off a Glove Across the Snowy Yard

AI imagejack russell terrierstolen glovesnow

A thin layer of snow covers the yard, and a small white and tan Jack Russell Terrier named Pepper stands in the middle with a knitted glove clamped in his jaws. His brown-patched ear flops forward and his eyes are trained a little off to the side, as if he hopes nobody will notice. Behind him stand a stack of wood, an old boot, a hose looped on the ground and a blue barrel, and the flat winter light makes everything look hushed. The glove is dangling by its fingers, and it has clearly been dragged some distance.

Jack Russell Terriers are small, energetic and clever dogs that were bred for fox hunting. They are athletic, fearless and very determined, and they need a good deal of exercise and mental work to stay out of trouble. Many terriers love to carry things, dig and chase, and a dropped glove is an irresistible prize. Winter walks with dogs call for some care: salt and chemicals on sidewalks can irritate paws, so wipe them clean after a walk, and keep an eye on a dog's comfort in the cold. Short-haired dogs may appreciate a coat. Knitted fabric can be dangerous if swallowed, so trade for a treat instead of chasing. If your dog eats wool or fabric, call your vet. Fetch games in the snow can be a fun way to burn off terrier energy.

Pepper will probably give up the glove for a treat and a game of fetch. The snow is only a small obstacle to a determined terrier.
