The Cavalry Officer's Helmet Is Taller Than He Is, Nearly
The plumes are so tall, they seem to have their own weather. A black and white Boston Terrier wears a gilded helmet crowned with a huge bouquet of white and black feathers, and underneath it, two upright ears and round dark eyes peer out with serious determination. His navy coat is stiff with gold embroidery, with a red sash across his chest and a large gold epaulette on the shoulder. A white chest and muzzle stand out clearly against the dark, craggy background.
The contrast between the small, sturdy face and the enormous headgear is irresistible. He wears it with total dignity, like an officer who has never once doubted the helmet.
Boston Terriers are often called the American Gentleman because of their tuxedo-like markings and polite manners. They are friendly, lively and usually good with families, and they often enjoy short bursts of play followed by long cuddles. Their short muzzle means they can overheat easily and may snore or snort, so keep exercise gentle in warm weather and avoid hot rooms or cars. Their large eyes are prominent and deserve gentle care, so keep an eye out for dust and irritation. Your vet can offer advice on breathing, eyes and routine care.
With a helmet like that, the whole regiment could find him in a crowd. He might prefer to be found near the treat jar.
