The Cavalry Officer Wears a Helmet That Is Taller Than He Is
The white plume rises from a glossy black helmet like a fountain, and the officer beneath it is very serious. The Boston Terrier has a black face with a white blaze, dark round eyes and large ears that poke out sideways beneath the helmet. His navy coat has gold leaf embroidery at the collar, gold buttons and thick, fringed gold epaulettes. A white cravat gleams at his throat, and behind him, silvery drapery and pale shadows form a stormy, quiet background.
The helmet is so tall that it seems to be wearing him, but he handles it with total dignity. His small face is full of determination, and his ears add a touch of comic sweetness. The gold fringe on his shoulders catches the light just so, and the plume seems to sway even though the picture is perfectly still.
Boston Terriers are friendly, lively little dogs known as the American Gentleman, thanks to their tuxedo-like markings. They are usually affectionate and playful, and they do well with families. Because of their short muzzles, they can overheat easily, and they may snort or snore, so keep exercise gentle in warm weather. Their large eyes need care, so ask your vet about eye health and cleaning. Short, positive training sessions are a good fit for this clever breed.
The cavalry is in good hands. The officer's orders for the day are to march, to salute and then to nap.
