A Red Maine Coon Empress Wears a Crown Too Small for Her Mane
A red mane, tufted ears and a tiny gold crown make an unusual and splendid empress. The Maine Coon has bright amber-green eyes and a thick, russet ruff that tumbles down her chest in long, shaggy strands, with dark tufts rising from the tips of her ears. A thick ermine collar with black flecks drapes around her shoulders over a cream robe embroidered in gold. Behind her, pale draped linen and a soft grey wall give her a subtle, noble setting.
The little crown seems almost too small for such a large cat, and that only makes the picture sweeter. She wears it with the calm confidence of a ruler who is used to being the biggest presence in any room.
Maine Coons are one of the largest domestic cat breeds, with a thick, shaggy coat and a bushy tail built for cold winters. They are known for being gentle, social and often chatty, with soft chirps and trills rather than loud meows. They take a few years to reach full size, so ask your vet about healthy growth and weight. Their long fur needs brushing several times a week, especially around the ruff and belly, to prevent mats. They also love tall cat trees and sturdy perches.
The empress needs no army. A single slow blink is enough to send every servant running with a brush.
