The Beagle Ambassador Guards a Scroll Sealed in Red Wax
Long, soft ears, big brown eyes and a white blaze down the nose: this Beagle looks like the most trustworthy courier in the kingdom. The red and white ambassador wears a navy velvet coat embroidered in gold and a wide red sash across the chest with a sunburst medal pinned on it. In one paw, trimmed with lace, he holds a rolled paper scroll sealed with a drop of red wax and a ribbon. His head is slightly lifted, and he gazes straight out with a calm and honest look.
Beagles are scent hounds with extraordinary noses, so a Beagle who carries a message is just using his best skill. They are cheerful, friendly and pack-oriented, and they generally enjoy company of both people and other dogs. Their noses are always working, so a leash or secure fence is important on walks, since they may follow a scent right out of sight. Beagles also love food and may gain weight easily, so measured meals and healthy treats are helpful. A trained recall and a sniffy walk are both great ways to give a Beagle a happy day.
Whatever is in that scroll, the ambassador will certainly deliver it, though possibly after investigating the smells in every corridor. Official business can be delicious, and he is in no hurry to rush such an important diplomatic mission.
