The Ship Captain Took the Wheel. His Ears Took the Wind.
Everything about this captain is built for the high seas, from the gold-trimmed tricorn on his head to the thick epaulettes on his shoulders. The Cocker Spaniel's long ears hang in dark and white ringlets on either side of a freckled face with tender brown eyes. A lace cravat spills down over a golden waistcoat, and the navy coat is fastened with gold bars and buttons. The background is a warm brown haze, as if lantern light is glowing on the deck and the sea is calm tonight.
Cocker Spaniels have a cheerful, friendly reputation, and their tails seem to wag nonstop. Their long, feathery ears are lovely but need regular care, since moisture can build up inside. Ask your vet how often to clean them. They enjoy water and walks, and many like to carry things in their mouths, so a favorite toy is a good investment. Their curly coats need brushing a few times each week to avoid tangles, especially behind the ears and under the legs. Cockers are people-oriented dogs, so they do best when they can spend lots of time with the family.
The crew would follow this captain anywhere, particularly if he kept his pockets full of biscuits. Under that serious hat is a soft heart, and the ship will always have room for one more sailor.
