A Shiba Inu Princess Considered Whether You Deserved a Smile
She has the confident smirk only a Shiba Inu can pull off. Her fox-like face is warm red and cream, her ears are pricked, and her dark eyes look straight out at you. She wears a lace ruffle at the neck, several strands of pearls, and a cream silk gown with embroidered flowers and puffed sleeves. The cloudy blue-gray wall behind her is peeling a little, which gives the whole portrait an antique charm. Her cheeks are a soft cream, and the red fur on her forehead is touched with a few darker strands.
Shibas are small Japanese dogs with a big sense of independence. They are clean, alert, and loyal, but they also have a stubborn streak, so patient, reward-based training works better than scolding. They need a securely fenced yard or a leash on walks, since many have a strong prey drive and can run off quickly. Their thick double coat sheds heavily a couple of times a year, and regular brushing helps a lot. Shibas can also be strong-willed about meeting strangers, so early, gentle socialization is useful.
The princess is clearly in charge of the palace. If you want something from her, you will need to negotiate, probably with treats. She will accept only fair terms. Her pearls look lovely, but her smug expression is the real jewel.
