The Pug Queen Put on Her Crown and Looked Quite Unbothered
Every inch of the black Pug queen's expression says she is in charge. A tall gold crown set with rubies, emeralds, and pearls sits above her folded ears, and her big dark eyes gaze out from a soft, wrinkled face. A thick white ermine cape with black flecks wraps her shoulders, pinned with a red jewel brooch, and her green velvet robe is stitched with golden flowers. Warm lamplight glows from the left, while the rest of the room fades to dusky brown.
Pugs are among the most people-loving little dogs, and many are happiest in a lap or tucked beside their family on the sofa. Their flat faces make breathing harder in heat and humidity, so keep them in cool, shaded spaces and skip heavy exercise on warm days. The deep wrinkles on a pug's face should be gently wiped and dried to prevent irritation. Pugs love to eat and can gain weight quickly, which strains their breathing and joints, so measured portions are a good idea. Their large, round eyes can be injured easily, so mention any squinting or redness to your vet.
Black pugs carry their royal look well, since a dark coat makes the ermine glow. The queen is serene, a little grumpy, and wholly adorable. Her kingdom, as every pug monarch knows, extends exactly as far as the nearest cushion.
