The Baron Checked His Pocket Watch and Nearly Gasped
The baron is, as always, exactly on time. A small black and white Shih Tzu in a dark green velvet coat holds a gold pocket watch aloft in one lace-cuffed paw, its chain looping down across his vest. His face is a puff of soft fur with a fluffy white beard and dark, shining eyes, and a lace cravat is tied neatly at his neck. A candle flickers low behind his shoulder, warming the background to amber.
Shih Tzus were bred long ago as companions for royal households, so a life of cushions and attention suits them perfectly. They are generally friendly, affectionate and adaptable, doing well in apartments as well as houses. Their long, silky coat needs regular care: daily brushing prevents tangles, and many owners choose a shorter trim to make it easier. Because of their flat faces, they can have trouble in heat and with strenuous exercise, so short walks in cool weather are better than long runs at noon. Keep the hair around their eyes trimmed or tied back, and clean the face folds gently. Your vet can recommend a routine for teeth, eyes and skin.
Given the watch, it must be nearly time for the baron's afternoon treat. He would never be late for that. A true baron respects the schedule, and the schedule says that cuddles must follow right after tea.
