The Frenchie Captain's Hat Was a Bit Big, but His Pride Was Not
Brass buttons shine in two neat rows down the captain's navy coat, and a lace cravat foams at his throat. The cream French Bulldog wears a black tricorn hat edged in gold that sits just slightly too big, so the ears push up beneath it like two small sails. His round, wrinkled face is solemn, with dark eyes and a black nose. Behind him the room is deep brown with a faint candle glow, and the cracked paint gives the portrait the feeling of an old family treasure.
Frenchies are famous for their bat ears and comical personalities, but their flat faces call for extra care on a voyage or anywhere else. Short-nosed dogs overheat more easily and can struggle with long walks, so choose cool hours, bring water and take breaks in the shade. Never leave a flat-faced dog in a parked car. If your dog is panting hard, making harsh noises or seems distressed, treat it as urgent and call your vet. Most Frenchies are happiest as indoor companions with moderate daily activity and plenty of cuddle time. A harness is gentler than a collar, and keeping your dog at a healthy weight can make breathing easier.
The captain has taken command of the sofa, and his crew, the cushions, have not objected. Anyone approaching will be asked for the password, which is a treat, and a belly rub if the answer is correct.
