The Weimaraner Gardener Brought In the Roses Just Before Sunset
Light ears, amber eyes, and a sleek silver-gray coat give this Weimaraner a quiet, elegant look as he sits holding a basket overflowing with pink and cream roses. He wears a dark green velvet jacket embroidered with gold leaves and a pale apron with a patch pocket that seems to have seen a lot of honest garden work. A lace cravat peeks out at the neck. Behind him, leafy branches and tiny white blossoms fade into the dark, with a distant lamp glowing like a lantern at the end of the garden path.
The roses are painted so softly that they almost seem to have fragrance. Dutch painters of the 1600s were famous for flowers and for the glow of candlelit interiors, and this portrait borrows both, giving the dog a warm, quiet dignity.
Weimaraners are athletic hunting dogs with a smooth gray coat, and they tend to be devoted, high-energy companions. They like to be near their people and do best with plenty of daily exercise and training. A bored Weimaraner can become destructive, so puzzle toys and long runs help. They are also known for strong chase instincts, so secure fencing and leash walks are smart. Your vet can advise on feeding such an active, deep-chested breed.
With a gardener this gentle, the roses are certainly in good hands, or at least in very polite paws.
