A British Shorthair Captain Takes the Helm in a Golden Tricorn
A blue-grey British Shorthair with a perfectly round face and copper eyes wears a gold tricorn hat and a pink coat embroidered in golden swirls. Fringed epaulettes sit on his shoulders, a lace jabot tumbles from his collar, and pink drapery and gilded scrolls fill the pastel background. With those plump cheeks and that steady stare, he looks like the kind of captain who runs a very calm ship and expects supper at six.
British Shorthairs are sturdy, easygoing cats with dense plush coats and a reputation for being calm and affectionate without being clingy. They often like to stay near their people but may not enjoy being carried around. Because they can gain weight easily, measured meals and daily play help keep them fit, and a regular check with the vet keeps a cat like this healthy for years.
The portrait pairs cool grey fur with warm gold and soft pink, and the result is lovely. The artist gave the tricorn hat a glossy shine and made the cat's cheeks look as plump and soft as velvet. Captains in old pictures often gaze toward the horizon, but this one prefers to look directly at the viewer, as if checking that everyone on deck is behaving.
The sea may be wide, but this captain seems certain he can handle it from a comfortable cushion.
